free vs paid website hosting

There is a lot of difference with free vs paid website hosting. I used free web hosting a couple of times to test the service, functions control panel... I guess it all depends on your profile! Let me explain. If your a student and your putting up a web page to test some things, or put up a page that is not crucial to you, then I guess free web hosts are ok.

But if your a company, I strongly suggest staying away from free web hosts. If you deal with a free web host, that means they have the control. If they see inactivity for a while on your pages, they just might delete your files. Plus free web hosting companies go out of business or change their plans frequently.

What do paying webhosts offer that free web hosting companies does not:
    • Security (access, firewalls...)
    • Up-time
    • A much better control panel complete with necessary functions
    • Support center (customer service)
    • Complete FAQ section
    • Tools to help you put everything up
    • Peace of mind!!
Another thing with free website hosting is that, sometimes, well they go out of business leaving you with a domain name that shows absolutely nothing! By the time you will have redirected your domain name to your new host (and if that happens, I'm sure it will be a paying website host!) 2, 3, 4 or maybe 5 days later, that means that you've lost all credibility with the people that visited your website during the last days.

Of course, free web hosting are not the fastest 'routes'. Hosting companies have priviledges policies that makes sure paying customers have the maximum bandwith. So, you might be experiencing time-outs, and your website might not be always available.

So, if you a company, a paid web host is the solution. I mean, you can have your website hosted by top web hosts for under 7$ a month!
